ALYESCHEM LLC
About Us
Alyeschem LLC is building a distributed chemical manufacturing (DCheM) facility on the North Slope of Alaska to supply critical chemicals starting with methanol, low sulfur diesel (ULSD), nitrogen, and chemical blending services to this isolated market where extreme logistics costs and stranded feed gas have created a unique opportunity.
The current chemical demand comes from operation of the oil and gas production facilities on the North Slope.
The Alaska fields have been importing these products from thousands of miles away for 40 years at great expense. The demand is stable.
We will be creating Alaska jobs, making our existing fields more competitive, and keeping more the value from our raw materials in the state.
Alyeschem’s location and connections will assist in further development of gas and lower carbon fuel opportunities as Alaska, the Arctic, and the world adjusts to our changing energy markets.
Executive Team
JR Wilcox, President
JR Wilcox has a BS in Chemistry and an MS in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He has broad experience in the Alaskan oil and gas industry, having worked in roles of increasing responsibility for BP, Forest Oil and Pacific Energy prior to cofounding Cook Inlet Energy. He served as president of CIE through 2014 when he left to found Aleyschem. He is past national Chairman of the IOGCC’s Safety and Environment Committee and Chairman of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce and was recognized as one of Alaska’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2012.
Craig Graff, COO
Craig Graff has a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Madison and is a registered professional engineer in the State of Alaska. He worked for Nalco providing specialty chemicals for oilfields across Alaska until 2007, and then as an engineering team lead for BP until 2020. His responsibilities extended through the Kuparuk, Milne Point, Northstar, Prudhoe Bay, Endicott, and Badami oilfields as well as providing technical oversight for Alyeska Pipeline. As the manager responsible for the chemical budget at Prudhoe Bay until 2020, he was directly responsible for the largest methanol spend in the Alaska oilfields.
Our Equity Partners
Alyeschem is backed by equity partners who bring industry experience and long-term commitment to the development of this project. Their investment supports the expansion of DCheM solutions on the North Slope and reinforces the value this facility will provide to operators and communities.
LOCAL
Founded, operated, and majority owned by Alaskans who care passionately about the future of Alaska.
PRACTICAL
Using core reformer and methanol synthesis technology that has been used and improved for over 100 years, yet benefiting from the recent availability of improved catalysts, automation, and energy integration products.
GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS
The elimination of a 5,000-mile supply chain will immediately reduce the CO2 emissions associated with the current methanol and ULSD used on the slope. Additionally, Alyeschem will convert a blend of natural gas and waste CO2 into methanol, thereby prevent its release into the atmosphere.
BLACK CARBON PARTICULATE MATTER
Diesel generators produce significant particulate emissions, which have a disproportionate impact on global warming in the arctic to darkening and rapid melting of the snow downwind from these sources. Methanol or DME engines burn perfectly clean with no particulate matter. This greatly simplifies the maintenance of these engines due to the elimination of exhaust treatment and makes them preferable fuels for arctic power generation.
REPURPOSED
Makes use of a vacant gravel pad built almost 10 years ago.
FAIRBANKS LNG
Alyeschem was able to quickly sell 10-acres of gravel pad to Harvest LNG, enabling delivery of North Slope natural gas to the growing Fairbanks market.
